What is Standing Pressure Test HVAC?

Project Bus Adm. to HVAC Post 13 What is a leak test for HVAC

When will people most likely learn about the leak test for HVAC?

Here in Remington College Shreveport campus, it seems to be class 102, Basic Refrigeration Theory. The reason is when you enter class might be in a different order than my order of classes. Therefore, a person can pick it up by attending tutoring before or after the lab.

What is a Leak Test for HVAC?

The Leak Test or standing pressure test is a way to check the system to see if the unit can hold pressure.

How will a person need to run this test?

The technician will need a pressure regulator, manifold gauge set (low-loss fittings), and a nitrogen bottle.

How performed a leak test for this type of class?

The technician will perform the leak test by checking if there is any oil around the service port to the units at the condenser. After ensuring the manifold gauge set is have on Low Loss Fitting. The manifold has three holes, blue to Low-Side and red to High side, and yellow holes for service. The Yellow holes in this service will connect to the pressure regulator on the black bottle of nitrogen.

The person will connect a manifold gauge set to the condenser’s service ports for high-low and low-side. Once all connected, open the manifold gauge by turning to the left open and watch the PSI go up. PSI is pressure per square inch from my notes from Remington College. PSI on the Low-side is 250 PSI, and the Discharge call above the High-Side is 350 PSI. (Pipes might not hold too much pressure. If I can recall correctly?) After waiting 15 minutes or 30 minutes to see if the pressure goes down to know it is a leak. Suppose pressure is the same, then all good, no leak. However, if the pressure goes down, there can be a leak. To find the leak, use a Refrigeration detector, as a professor will talk about in a later class, or use a bottle of soap water near of oil to find the bubbles.

Knowing what to do is different from doing it. Or at last, what I learned from watching my professor's video is that lab for leak test and doing the lab in four weeks of 102 Basic Refrigeration Theory.

In all, thank you for reading this post. The next post will be on Sunday. Have a great week.
